Rocky Mountain Elk With a Bow

"Here he comes!" I whisper as the bull seemingly appears to manifest out of thin air. The bull is slowly weaving his way through the trees looking for the temptress that must be close now. I hardly announce the bulls presence before I'm shaking so bad I barely manage to pull my bow back. Now a mere 15 yards from us and the bull is none the wiser to our existence. It's as though we are ghosts as he burns a hole through me looking for the cow call that he will never find. The arrow cuts through the air reporting with a crack as it delivers a lethal blow.

Our archery hunts take place in the first half of September, which tends to have mild late summer days. By then the bulls have started to rut and bugle. This allows us to use calls to locate them audibly and entice them to get up close and personal. This hunt will have you staying up late and waking up early, navigating through steep rugged terrain, and will test your physical abilities. However, with the right amount of preparation, it can be the most rewarding hunt you ever go on. Any elk with a bow is a major accomplishment!
