ONE SHOT ONE KILL

Here at Non-Typical Outfitters we have a focus on hunting one animal and taking that animal with one shot. We have developed shooting classes to help our hunters obtain the skills for that one shot kill. This class is a practice of practical field positions for effectively killing big game with one shot. It has an advanced focus on the tools needed to take your field shooting to the next level in rough mountainous terrain. This class will give you the tools to make that one shot count, whatever the terrain, the animal, or the mountain throws at you.

In today’s world hunters have built points for years, spent thousands of dollars on their gun, optics, tag, outfitter, and other equipment. They have spent time at the range shooting in order to prepare for that one chance at the animal of a lifetime. What is often neglected are the skills to take that one shot in asymmetrical, rough, mountainous terrain from an improvised rest in a very short timeframe. This is how 80 percent or more of western shots will play out.

Robb Wiley has a combined 20+ years of working in the outfitting industry in mountainous terrain, his own hunting and killing of thousands of predators, as well as his work with the top special forces units in the country.  He uses this broad base of knowledge to bring these field techniques to you through our Non-Typical Shooting Classes.  Robb is not only proficient at harvesting big game, but spends countless days in the winter hunting predators which requires speed, proficiency, and deadly accuracy.  Every shooter who attends this class, whether a long range hunter, short range hunter, seasoned veteran hunter, or new to hunting, will learn the field positions that are a must for successful high mountain hunts.

This three day instructional session on practical aspects of shooting in the mountains is set in the epic, mountainous landscape of western Wyoming and all accommodations are included.  Accommodations are a modern tent camp with a shower and a generator for lighting and recharging batteries.  Horses are used for access to the high country shooting areas.  Practical field positions will be taught while shooting steel targets at various ranges from up close, off hand shots to ranges out to 1000 yards.  They cover moving targets, adjusting for wind, adjusting for shooting angle, advanced ballistics, terminal ballistics, how to manage your gear on the mountain and how to turn what gear you already have with you into a solid rest for 3/4 minute accuracy, among other things.  During these shooting classes, Robb will be using his own rifle along with you to demonstrate these techniques.

Focus will also be on making these types of shots happen quickly.  When that giant, once in a lifetime trophy presents that one shot, speed may be essential.  Whether you are hunting the high mountains, the high desert, or the low country you will be able to take the skills that you develop in this class to become a better and more successful hunter.

How Will This Class Benefit My Hunt?

Hunters are not known for practicing shooting positions before an upcoming hunt.  We can teach you a wide range of positions that will improve your ability to make the shot when you need to so you won't miss out on that dream trophy on your next hunt.

This class is also a tremendous opportunity to meet our staff before your up and coming hunt with NTO.  There will be no uncomfortable first day when you show up for your hunt.  You will already be part of the family.  We will already know your strengths and weaknesses and can better plan a hunt around your desires.  You also will get to use your gun, rangefinder, optics and gear in the terrain you are going to be hunting in which is so valuable!

What Is The Best Way To Get There?

If you are flying, there are two main choices for airports to fly into.  Salt Lake City, UT airport is about 150 miles from Cokeville, WY (the closest town to the camp where the event will take place).  Jackson, WY airport is about 125 miles from Cokeville.  You could also fly into Pocatello, ID (120 miles) or Idaho Falls, ID (150 miles).  From Cokeville to Big Park Camp is about an hour drive on gravel roads.  Please note that Google Maps and other navigation may not be able to locate Big Park Camp accurately.  We will be sending a map for you and we can also drop you a "pin" so that you will be sure to find the correct location.

Do I Need A Gun?

We highly recommend bringing your own rifle if you have one.  There is a huge benefit to practicing with your own weapon.  The muscle memory you develop as you practice will be most effective if you create it with the weapon you will be using normally.  Also, as a team we will help you set up and verify that your gun is performing at its best.  We will help you set up and use a ballistics application to generate elevation & windage adjustment to 1000 yards +

We may have a few rifles available that you could use, but we ask that if you have a rifle of your own (or have access to one) please bring it.   We would like to save any loaner rifles for people who have no other option.

What Is The Age Limit For Students?

We have had students as young as 12 take our class.  I think the right 10 year old could come and be successful.  This training is a huge component to building a solid foundation for a lifetime of successful shooting.  We have had multiple young shooters participate in the class and keep in contact with us sharing their success stories and pictures.  One father told us his son is now the best shot in the family after coming to this class.

What If I Am Not A Long Range Shooter.

This class is focused on all ranges that could be encountered on the mountain.  We go over off hand, close range (2-300 yards) shots as well as long range (1200 yards) shots.  One of our stations is a 90 yard off hand shot that simulates an encounter one of our mule deer hunters had with a 240 inch GIANT.  Our philosophy is to train at 700 yards on steel, so as to never miss at 400 yards while hunting.

Your shooting skills diminish up to 50 percent under stress/buck fever.  So even if you only intend to hunt out to 400 yards you should be practicing out to 7-800 yards in our opinion.   The more practice that you have had, the more automatic that shot will be.

We will gladly help you get the equipment necessary for this class if you don't already own it.

Would My Wife Enjoy This Class?

YES!

We have had many husband and wife teams come and take this class and they loved it.  Our camp is very family friendly.  Our own wives and children are often in camp.

Women are  quite often, with very little training, better shots then a lot of men.  They listen to instruction very well and are usually natural shooters.  We have taken women that have never shot a gun and had them knocking the paint off the steel at 500 yards in minutes with the right instruction.  They were hooked for life!

What Makes This Class Diferent?

First of all, this class is located at 8600 ft elevation.  The terrain we are shooting in is the same terrain that you will be hunting  in, the rugged mountains of  Wyoming.  We have cross canyon shots and high angle shots with wind scenarios just like you are going to find on the mountain on your next hunt.

Meals & accommodations are included in this package.  You will be staying at our hunting camp in wall tents.  We use horses to access some of the shot scenarios.

Our instructors combine 25 years of guiding  experience, vast personal hunting experiences, and learned techniques from working with our country's top special forces teams to make this the best shooting class for hunting scenarios available.

How Much Ammo Do I Need To Make This Class Worth It.

You could come to this class with as few as 50 rounds and make it worth your time.  We have had a couple of students who came to shoot.  They worked extremely hard and were able to shoot 200 rounds during the class (200 rounds is a ton of shooting).

Some guns have a limited barrel life and you don't want to shoot more than necessary  to be ready for the hunt.  If you have a hunting rifle that has a very limited barrel life, we recommend using a training rifle that is set up like your hunting rifle chambered in a 6.5 Creedmoor or 308 Rem.
